Ellsworth Kelly

Ellsworth Kelly was one of America's great 20th-Century artists whose work was influenced by the avant-garde movement. Kelly had become a leading exponent of the hard-edge style of painting, in which abstract contours and large areas of flat color are sharply defined. He refined his style throughout the late 20th century, branching into printmaking and large-scale public sculpture.

My paintings don’t represent objects, they are objects themselves and fragmented perceptions of things.

I didn’t want an art that was so subjective, I wanted to get away from the cult of the personality.
